Studies pioneered by John Alden Knight have found that phases of the sun and
moon have a bearing on the feeding patterns of animals including fish. There are
more detailed charts available (mostly for purchase) that break down feeding
patterns by the hour; however, generally speaking animals feed more on and around
a full and new moon. There are certainly other environment factors that may also
affect fishing such as weather and water temperature; however, fish are more active
and more likely to be caught all day, a day or two on either side of a full and new
moon.
